I believe that in 2013 we are at the stage of communicating virtually through- social media, emails and text messaging. We use these devices to make easy contact with friends, family and new people. Emails and text messages are fast sending, and an easy way to make quick contact, no matter what the distance. Emails are free as they are internet based, and text messages are free when they come in a monthly contract or pay as you go. By making these free, people are more likely to use them, so the internet and virtual relationships have become more common.
